Adele Sells 10 Million Copies of "21"

As if Adele wasn't already putting everyone in the record industry to shame enough with her broad range of accomplishments, she crossed yet another plateau this week. Her ridiculously successful sophomore album "21" has officially reached diamond status in the U.S.. For some of you that ride a short bus, diamond status is indicative of an album that has sold 10 million copies. The album in total has sold 10,020,000 copies. This is nothing short of  incredible considering 21 was released just last February of 2011 and has already went diamond. On the day of it's release, 21 debuted at number one with 352,000 copies sold within its first week and has since then remained in the top ten albums of the Billboard 200 for a staggering 80 friggin weeks. It spent 24 non-consecutive weeks at number one, the most ever for an album in the Nielson Soundscan era. The only other albums that have went diamond in a shorter time span were "No Strings Attached" by N Sync's in just 43 weeks after their release and last but certainly not least, "Millennium" by "Backstreet Boys" in just 39 weeks after their release. Boy Bands were doing it big back in the days, folks! 21 has been the best selling album for two years, selling 5.82 million copies during 2011 and 4.2 million copies this year.

21 impressively spawned three #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, namely being "Rolling In The Deep", "Someone Like You", and "Set Fire To The Rain". All of which have also went multi platinum during their presence on the charts. "Rolling in the deep" sold the most, with 7 million copies, "Someone Like You" with 5 million copies and "Set Fire To The Rain" with 4 million copies. "Rumour Has It", being the final single from 21 was top 20 but still managed to sell 2 million copies of itself. I would say that Adele was kicking ass and taking names in regards to the success of this album, but even that description wont suffice. The endless success this album has garnered is beyond phenomenal.

I've never been a fan of the Grammys due to the mass corruption of that entire committee, but just for the sake of Adele and her raw talent I will mention them. Adele amazingly won a total of 6 Grammys in one night, which were Best Pop Vocal Album for 21, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Short Form Music Video for "Rolling In The Deep", Best Pop Solo Performance for "Someone Like You", and of course the highly prestigious, yet controversial Album of the Year. For once in the Grammy's history, an artist wasnt cheated and was actually well-deserving.  Adele is an awesome singer-songwriter and Im so glad that her hard work and immense talent has been widely recongnized. I've been a fan of her's since her debut album 19. I find everything that she does truly inspiring, provided that we were born in the same year. It seems that not all of my generation were a bunch of fuck ups.
