The End Is Nigh, Folks!

Did you year those horns? Its the horns we're prompted to hear that signal the end of the friggin world! You know why? Because Rihanna has scored another number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 with her latest single called "Diamonds"! This makes it her 12th number one single, thus tying her with MANdonna and The Supremes. She has now officially surpassed Whitney Houston's 11 number ones. Rihanna currently stands at 4th place amongst artists with the most number one singles. Others that have more are The King of Pop Michael Jackson with 13, Elvis Presley with 17, The Queen of Pop Mariah Carey with 18 and The Beatles with 20. Rihanna and Carey stand as the only active artists with the possible oppurtunity to surpass The Beatles.

So what does this mean, folks? Will Rihanna eventually surpass Michael, Mariah and The Beatles? In all honesty, its quite possible (I hope not) but I will tell you this: Provided the many different types of media that we have access to in this highly technological age, its easy as hell to acquire a number one single. All you basically need is popularity, good looks, Itunes, Youtube, the willingness and lack of dignity to sell yourself out and then BAM! You've got yourself a number one hit! Before the advent of Itunes, Youtube and piracy, people actually ventured out of their houses to the store to buy an album, or most commonly at that time a single. When people like Michael, Mariah and Whitney were on the scene, they worked hard as hell to promote their music. Live appearances, the radio and a music video were the only forms of media provided as a means of promotion. Itunes didnt exist and singles usually existed physically in the stores. Some still do now, but not nearly much compared to the 90's. If folks went out of their way to purchase your album or single back then, it really meant something, and that particular accomplishment of acquiring a number single was highly praised and respected among the music industry folks. You know why? Because actual EFFORT was required the entertainer to promote, and the masses to buy. Nowadays, all you have to do is open your itunes to buy a particular song, wait until it leaks, or watch it on youtube.

For someone who sounds like an amputee goat with a horrible case of  gastritis when she sings, I must say that Im shocked as hell that this horrible ass song reached number one. Ive previewed the Diamonds song, and admittedly I can only sit through 30 seconds of it before my ears start screaming "TURN THAT SHIT OFF"! I have tried numerous times to listen to it in its entirety, but I just cant. Its nowhere near number one single material, but yet most of the songs that have went to the summit in this day and age are shit. Gangam Style, anyone? Dont even get me started on that bullshit. Anyways, let me also remind you kids that Rihanna has already released yet another album this year called Unapoligetic. It was the follow-up to Talk That Talk which was released last year. She's appearantly following the Mariah formula by releasing and album every year and obviously wants to keep the momentum going for herself. I honestly thought that Talk That Talk being the sorry hunk of shit that it is would end her career, but I guess not. It appears that the public is still not tired of her ass, but I know for damn sure that I am.
